Additional Info:Mr. MacKinnon's sloinneadh (ancestry is: "Iain lagain Iain", which when translated from Gaelic means: "John son of Iain, grandson of Iain".
"Iain was known as a quiet, gentle and kindly man. He was much attached to his faith and Church and helped out in a very quiet way in any way he could. He was a teacher by profession and began his teaching career in Daliburgh secondary in 1951 teaching Gaelic, Geography and Latin and was involved with teaching until a few years. In his professional life he taught in the following schools:
1951 - 56 - Daliburgh Secondary
1956 - 64 - in Malawi as instructor in a teacher training college
1964 - 67 - He became a headmaster in Eoiligarry School, Barra
1967 - 73 - Gerinish School
1973 - 88 - Lochboisdale School
He retired when the Lochboisdale School closed but continued supply teaching until two years ago.
As well as his contribution to teaching, in the 1970s he was appointed to the committee that translated the Mass into Gaelic. These are the translations that are still used in the leaflets at each Sunday Mass wherever Gaelic masses are celebrated in the Diocese. He also loved the weekly whist sessions and would be seen supporting many of the functions that took place in the Hall."
