Additional Info:Mr. Gallacher passed away peacefully in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness after a short illness. There were many parishioners present at the Requiem Mass, and two priests concelebrated with Fr. McAuley: Fr. Calum MacLellan of the Isle of Eriskay and Fr. John Paul MacKinnon of Castlebay, Isle of Barra. Fr. McAuley's spoke of Donald in his homily:
"Donald was a person of hope and certainly one who loved life. All of you are here today because Donald touched your lives in some way. You know what it was, and you hold your memories of him dear to you today.....perhaps Donald ghillied for you and rowed you or motored you around the loch, and told you what flies to use and told you stories...he was good at that. Maybe you were a neighbour or a fellow parishioner. Donald was a passkeeper here in the church and a faithful parishioner. He also loved playing whist over in the hall, he was a good player too and very determined. Perhaps your association with Donald was through the fiddle and accordion club or another musical connection. Maybe you saw him in his role as volunteer in the thrift shop or on the bus where he was very much the conductor! The simple goodness of ordinary people does not make headline news. We give thanks today for Donald who has done these things in his own way. They were not newsworthy but they were the realities of his daily living. For many years Donald used to visit Uist house every Sunday where he would go round each of the elderly in turn., and often entertain them and others with his melodian. He was good at sending cards, letting people know that he was thinking about them.

I pray that I may fish until my dying day,
and when it comes to my last cast;
I then most humbly pray;
When in the Lord's great landing net I'm peacefully asleep;
That in his mercy I be judged good enough to keep. "

Reciting the words of Fr. MacLellan just moments before the Mass, Fr. McAuley said, "Fr. Calum summed it all up with this statement: Donald just made everyone happy."
A reception was held afterward in St. Peter's Hall. The amount of people who turned out for the Mass and the meal showed the high esteem in which Donald was held by the local community.
A retiring collection was requested by the family, which was taken up for the parish of St. Peter's.
