Additional Info: | Donald' sloinneadh (ancestry) was: "Domhnall Choinnich", which when translated from Gaelic means "Donald son of Kenneth." ====================== "At the beginning of the last war Donald joined the 4/5 Camerons as a piper and was taken captive by the Germans at Ft. Valerie. He was to spend the rest of the war in a Prisoner of War camp in Germany in Stalag 9c. The conditions in the POW camps were desperate and had a lasting effect on Donald's health. He was released at the end of the war and returned home. He was to stay at home from then on working in the sea-weed factory. He had a great love of piping and was pipe major of the T. A. Pipe Band and the Bornish Pipe Band. His love of piping remained with him the rest of his days." (Written By Canon John Angus Galbraith) |
